Eagleby Giants: More Than Just a Rugby League Club
Written By Nick Carroll
In Eagleby there is a small group of volunteers doing incredible things. They are based at the Eagleby Giants JRLFC. This is a club that is so much more than just a rugby league club.
Club President Arthur Joyce and Vice President Nick Carroll founded the club in 2012 and always had more than rugby league on their minds.
“We wanted to create a community hub that created good people not just good footballers. We wanted to create a system that encouraged the players and their families to dream big in life and live a large life that helps them achieve these dreams.” explains Arthur Joyce
To help achieve this the Giants have built a strong culture based on the Giants Core values and the Giants Keys to Success.
The Giants are also big on positive slogans and over the years they have used the following: Dream Big + Live Large, Thrive Where You Are, and Onwards and Upwards.
These positive affirmations must be having an effect as in the past 5 years the Giants have built their facilities at Bishop Street Park, won 3 grand finals and were named the 2019 Rugby League Brisbane Junior Club of the Year.
But what the Giants are most proud of is that they have been able to turn Bishop Street Park into a community hub that offers: Grow – A mental health program, The Shed, youth programs and events, clinics and their annual suicide and mental health awareness week.
“We are so proud that we have created a club that helps our community feel proud of their home town and realise that by setting goals and working hard they can achieve great things in life.”
As the Eagleby Giants say… Onwards and Upwards!!!
