The journey to develop the City of Logan’s flourishing innovation ecosystem will be shared with Asia Pacific government representatives next month.

Deputy Mayor Jon Raven will speak during the 2021 Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayor’s Forum, to be held in Brisbane, and virtually, from September 8 to 12.

His presentation “Innovating at the city level: A City of Logan perspective” will highlight Logan City Council’s successes and challenges in building an internationally-recognised and connected innovation ecosystem.

“Our city is one of the fastest growing in Australia with a median age of 34 years, so Council has long recognised the need to find employment opportunities in new and emerging industries to build prosperity,” Cr Raven said.

“The future of work is being driven by automation, globalisation and collaboration and councils around the world need to tap into that to support sustainable growth and economic development in regional economies.

“Our journey has been successful because of the strong partnerships we’ve built with local and international partners.

“We are starting to see our city’s innovation ecosystem mature and grow, particularly with the opening earlier this year of the coLab growth hub at Underwood to launch rapidly-growing businesses onto the global stage.”

Cr Raven said he was excited to share Council’s innovation strategy with delegates, who will represent cities including Beijing, Singapore, Baltimore, Auckland and across Australia.

The City of Logan innovation experience will also be highlighted at this month’s Australian Information Industry Association’s iAwards, held as part of the association’s national conference.
